Baby monitor: This time to monitor his breathing
Gayatri | Dec 5 2008

Till now we have seen a number of baby monitors that keep a tab on your baby’s activities while you are away. They tell you when they are sleeping and when they are crying but nothing more than that. Researchers have now moved a step ahead and developed a prototype baby monitor that takes care of a baby’s breathing.

With special radar technology at guard, the monitor sends a loud alarm the moment it observes that the baby has stopped breathing. The alarm reaches the parents on the portable unit which is carried by them. The radar used in the device is Doppler radar, that registers the in-and-out movement of the baby’s chest from respiration.

The monitor is designed by the Engineering students at the University of Florida and is as small as the size of a book and can be attached to the crib. Together with it comes a remote station that displays the important details pertaining to the baby including baby’s vital signs, battery life of the station, and the wireless connection.
